Skills, staffing and solar: our morning at Nescot with Helen Maguire MP
We joined local businesses and Helen Maguire MP at Nescot College to talk about apprenticeships, staffing and a four-week course on a live install.
We recently joined a business breakfast at Nescot College with Helen Maguire, the Liberal Democrat MP for Epsom and Ewell. We are based in Epsom, so it was a good chance to sit down with the college and other local businesses, and to talk about the things that matter to us as an employer.
Apprenticeships at Nescot
We already have apprenticeships running with Nescot, so we came with real experience of how they work on the ground. Bringing new people into the trade matters to us. Every solar, battery and heat pump job needs people who are trained to do it properly.
Staffing
We also talked about the staffing issues we face as an installer. It was useful to talk them through with the people who train the next generation.
A four-week course on a live install
We have put together a course that will run over four weeks on a live install, on site. It gives learners time on a real job, where they can see how an installation comes together.
A scheme with the college
We also discussed a scheme with the college itself. We look forward to seeing where that conversation goes.
Thank you
Thank you to Nescot for hosting, and to Helen Maguire for giving local businesses her time. If you would like to talk about our work with apprentices, or a project of your own, get in touch.
