Solar PV and battery storage for a home in London

5.5 kW solar with 31 kWh battery storage

Looking straight down on the flat roof of a London house, with black solar panels fitted between the roof lights

A London home with a 5.5 kW solar array, 31 kWh of battery storage, a Sigenergy gateway and a myenergi eddi, so the house stores and uses as much of its own generation as it can.

The brief

A large family home in London with a flat main roof, already busy with roof lights. The owners wanted to generate and store as much of their own electricity as the house could use, without crowding the roof lights or spoiling the look of the roof.

The design

We laid the panels out in rows between the roof lights and on the slopes of the mansard, so the array works around the light coming into the house. The battery storage is split across Sigenergy stacks in the plant area, with a Sigenergy gateway managing the house, the panels and the batteries together.

The system

  • A 5.5 kW solar array
  • 31 kWh of battery storage
  • A Sigenergy gateway
  • A myenergi eddi, which sends spare solar generation to the hot water cylinder instead of exporting it

How we installed it

Every cable runs in galvanised tray and trunking, and the floor-standing battery has a steel guard post in front of it. The system was commissioned and handed over with the Sigenergy app set up, so the household can see generation, storage and use at a glance.

The result

The house now stores its daytime generation for the evening and heats its water with what would otherwise be exported. The household’s figures will follow here once they have a full season of data.
